About

Part of Bradford District Museums and Galleries service, Bradford Industrial Museum is based in Moorside Mills, Eccleshill.

Moorside Mills was originally built around 1875 as a small worsted spinning Mill by John Moore. Ownership of the mills changed many times over the years as the site developed and grew.

In 1970, Bradford Council bought Moorside Mills from Messrs. W & J Whitehead to create an innovative museum, which opened in 1974. Bradford's Industrial Museum has permanent displays of textile machinery, steam power, engineering and motor vehicles, along with an exciting exhibitions programme.

There are regular demonstrations of working machinery by  our staff team and volunteers.  Depending on the day, you can marvel at the machinery whirring in Motive power – demonstrating what made the mill run, visit a working blacksmith,  or talk to the Printing or Weaving Volunteers  -  and see them demonstrate their techniques. Ask for details from reception when you visit to find out what’s happening that day!

Bradford District Museums & Galleries are a family friendly organisation.  We regularly organise free events, activities and workshops across all four sites particularly during the school holiday periods – check www.bradfordmuseum.org for the latest events and activities on offer.

Supported using public funding from Arts Council England.
