About

In times gone by music was as much a pastime as it was for performance. Whilst most royal courts had resident musicians who would entertain and accompany dances and balls, music also had a place in the homes of the times.

Local early musicians, Dulciana , model the familial pastime of the era by sharing authentic music of the time playing a range of period instruments including recorders, crumhorns, curtal, flutes, lute and citole. They will be showcasing the early clarinet and precursor, the chalumeau. This is not a formal performance but a living history of how music would have been shared and even discovered together around hearths and fireplaces of houses such as East Riddlesden Hall.
