About

Join us for the Winter Solstice Strider 2024, a 10k or 5k head torch evening run through the St. Ives estate Bingley on the shortest day to help raise vital funds for Sue Ryder.

The Winter Solstice Strider is a sister event to our popular 5-mile Summer Solstice Saunter.

This event takes place on the Winter Solstice on Saturday 21 December 2024. The run starts at the STRI and winds through the woods (and fittingly past Druids Altar) within the St. Ives Estate at Bingley.

As usual with our solstice events, all participants will receive a fantastic bespoke medal this year.  The event is sponsored by Coco & Barley Dog Walking Services, and supported by our hosts at the STRI and the St. Ives Golf Club, who provide a large proportion of the free parking that is provided for participants.

Whilst we anticipate that most participants will come to the St. Ives Estate to take part, virtual entry (where participants run a 10k or 5k route of their own choice on the shortest day) is also available.

Virtual runners are sent their bespoke medal in advance to wear with pride after their own strider.

Unpredictable events such as flooding or fallen trees may mean that the route and time of the Winter Solstice Strider may have to be changed.  The terrain for this event is 95% rough track, which can be hazardous, especially in wet conditions. Participants should therefore wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Many, but not all, hazards and low branches will be clearly marked so as a minimum a good quality head torch must be worn (an additional chest-mounted torch is also advisable), for participant safety.
