A picture of the soprano Alexandra Lowe

About

Welcome in the New Year with an afternoon of joyous music and Viennese charm.

Conductor Eduardo Strausser and the Hallé take a whirl around the ballrooms of old Vienna in this celebration of timeless classics, with a guest appearance from the enchanting soprano Alexandra Lowe. From the lively overture to Die Fledermaus and the playful rhythms of Tritsch-Tratsch and Pizzicato Polka, to the romantic strains of Lehar’s Vilja, the concert also includes a selection of polkas and waltzes from family Strauss, including Wiener Bonbons and Wein, Weib und Gesang. Gershwin’s homage By Strauss adds a modern twist before the afternoon concludes with the thunderous Unter Donner und Blitz and the iconic waltz, On the Beautiful Blue Danube.
