Phantom Thread

About

Visual beauty, sublime music and exquisite performances unfold in a film that intertwines romance and fashion with psychological drama, magnificent in 70mm.

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, this 2017 masterpiece stars Daniel Day-Lewis in his last film role as Reynolds Woodcock. A meticulous and renowned dressmaker in 1950s London -- dressing royalty, movie stars, heiresses and socialites. Woodcock’s life is disrupted when he falls for Alma (Vicky Krieps), a strong-willed young woman, who becomes his muse and lover. As their relationship deepens, it reveals a complex dynamic of power, control, and intimacy. This intoxicating romantic tension is brilliantly underscored through a sharp script and surprising humour.

Filmed on 35mm and blown up to rich 70mm, Phantom Thread captures the luxurious textures and intricate details of its couture world with breathtaking clarity. Anderson’s choice of film stock and natural lighting creates a decadent visual experience that highlights the film’s period authenticity and aesthetic beauty.

Celebrated for its direction, screenplay, and performances, Phantom Thread received numerous accolades, including six Academy Award nominations. Day-Lewis’s committed portrayal of Woodcock was particularly praised for its depth and nuance, adding to his legacy as one of the greatest actors of his generation.
