About
We’re thrilled to welcome one of the giants of English folk music for her first ever show in Bradford.
Eliza Carthy grew up immersed in the world of traditional music. The daughter of folk legends Martin Carthy and Norma Waterson, she quickly found her own voice – championed by John Peel, Andy Kershaw and Billy Bragg, and performing and recording with the likes of Paul Weller, Rufus & Martha Wainwright and Jarvis Cocker.
Eliza’s music effortlessly crosses boundaries of genre and style. Whether performing a centuries-old ballad or a self-written song, her powerful voice, fiercely beautiful fiddle playing and mesmerising performances have influenced countless young musicians. Twice nominated for the Mercury Prize and winner of innumerable other accolades, this ‘modern English musician’ (as she calls herself) is one of the most impressive, engaging and important performers of her generation.
