Get ready for an awesome June in the Bradford district. Enjoy lots of wonderful events as summer finally arrives, with the sun shining brightly, flowers blooming and birds singing. Here's a glimpse of what awaits you this month, so grab your calendar and start planning.

Start the month by seeing a wonderful new exhibition at Cliffe Castle Museum in Keighley. From 1st June-1st December Within Nature: East Meets West represents the fulfilment of a years-long promise between artists from Yorkshire and South Korea to hold an exhibition together that looks at how different cultures approach the same theme.

Experience the magic of music through the lens of Bingleys Make Music a new photography exhibition. Explore the windows along Bingley Main Street and immerse yourself in the print exhibition at Bingley Arts Centre until 26th June.

Head out and explore the countryside on a guided walk taking you from Ilkley up to Nesfield and Upper Austby on Tuesday, 11th June. The 6.5-mile route is suitable for experienced walkers and will lead you to some outstanding views across Wharfedale.

Join the fun in Centenary Square, Bradford, on 14th-15th June at the Windrush Generations Carnival of Culture. Play at the fun fair, taste some delicious international cuisine, enjoy live music and more at this brilliant event.

Have your tastebuds tickled in Ilkley on 15th-16th June at the Ilkley Food and Drink Festival. Dozens of stalls will be serving up delicious goodies for you to enjoy while you watch demonstrations from top chefs and enjoy live entertainment in between exploring the art displays and fun fair at the picturesque Ilkley Riverside.

Celebrate the natural world at Denso Marston Nature Reserve in Baildon on Saturday, 15th June. On this special day, the reserve is hosting plenty of great family activities, including pond dipping and bird ringing. Local wildlife conservation organisations will also be on hand to show you about the incredible work that they do.

Watch all the action from the International Ilkley Trophy Tennis Tournament at the Ilkley Lawn Tennis and Squash Club on 15th-22th June. Players from all over the world will compete for the coveted trophy at the end of a week of non-stop tennis.

Board classic trains at the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway’s Diesel Gala on 20th-23rd June. A collection of visiting diesel engines will join the home fleet for the event and the on-board real ale bar will return to offer a selection of tasty, locally brewed drinks.

Visit Cartwright Hall, Bradford, on Saturday, 22nd June for a family day celebrating two new exhibitions, ‘Plants of the Quran’ and ‘Dream, and Songs to Sing’. The day will include theatrical performances and a collaborative art piece to join in on as well as crafting activities.

Dive into great books at the Bradford Literature Festival, which returns from 28th June-7th July. This year’s themes range from Ancient Egypt to Shakespeare, Gothic Literature to Climate Change, as well as events on Fairy Tales, Activism, and more! Special guest authors will be appearing at events across the city to discuss their latest books and there will be plenty of live entertainment on hand too, with fun things to do for all the family.

Discover a range of wonderful artisan goods at the Summer Maker’s Fair at Ilkley Manor House on 29th and 30th June. Local makers will be in the Manor House courtyard, with stalls selling cards, jewellery, ceramics and much more.

Step back to the 1940s in Saltaire on 29th-30th June. Over the weekend there will be loads of activities happening in Roberts Park and Victoria Hall including reenactments, a classic car display, a play and a marquee where you can dance the afternoon away.

Wave the rainbow flag in Ilkley on Saturday, 29th June, at the Ilkley Pride event in King’s Hall. The event will be packed with fantastic stalls, delicious food and live entertainment from some of the best performers on the circuit.

Head to the districts’ theatres and music venues where you’ll find incredible shows this month. Ilkley Playhouse presents the musical comedy Glorious while Bonnie and Clyde bring the thrills to the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford. Beauty and the Beast is headed to NT East Riddlesden Hall in Keighley and the Bradford Playhouse will welcome musical extravaganza Rock of Ages. Comedy is afoot at both the Studio Theatre in Bradford with The Muslims Are Coming and at King’s Hall in Ilkley, where Nurse Georgie Carroll will prove to be just what the doctor ordered.

It’s the Beatles vs. the Beach Boys over at Bingley Arts Centre, while the folk stylings of Genticorum entertain audiences at The Live Room in Saltaire. There are tributes aplenty to some of music’s most legendary performers this month too as Mamma Mania brings the music of ABBA to Tapestry Arts in Tong, The Illegal Eagles rock St. George’s Hall in Bradford, the best of Gary Barlow can be heard at the Best Western Bradford Guidepost Hotel and King’s Hall in Ilkley puts on an incredible tribute to David Bowie.
