Wave of Nostalgia in Haworth, the North of England’s Best Independent Bookshop 2024 has pulled together a further fantastic schedule of events for young and old for July, leading up to Haworth Festival towards the end of the month.
The month kicks off at 7PM on Wednesday 3rd July when author Essie Fox tells us all about her dazzlingly dark gothic novel, The Fascination: The estranged grandson of a wealthy collector of human curiosities becomes fascinated with teenaged twin sisters, leading them into a web of dark obsessions.
The following week at 7PM on 10th July, Wave of Nostalgia host best-selling author Jennifer Saint who will be telling the story of Hera – Queen to the Gods of Greek myth. Often portrayed as the jealous wife or the wicked stepmother, this retelling captures the many sides of Hera, vengeful when she needs to be but also compassionate and most importantly, an all-powerful Queen.
On the evening of Weds 17th, and continuing the Greek mythology theme, award-winning author, Hannah Lynn, will be in the village launching her latest historical novel, Daughters of Olympus. Inspired by the eternal triangle of Persephone, Demeter and Hades, it features a mother who has lost everything and a daughter with more to gain than she ever realised. In the name of something as human as love, their story will irrevocably shape the world.
Wave of Nostalgia is supporting Haworth Festival with three events in the last weeks of July. The first is at 7PM on Thursday 25th led by local poet Ian Humphreys. It celebrates the relationship between the Brontes and the wild in a series of poems, anthologised as ‘No Net Ensnares Me’. Ian plus seven more of the contributors will perform their own poems from the collection. For the youngsters and just in time for the Olympics, Paralympic Champion Danielle Brown will be signing copies of her book on inspirational sportswomen - Run like a Girl at 2PM on Saturday 27th July
The final event in July is on Wednesday 31st at 7PM when best-selling historical writer Stacey Halls will present from The Household. Set against Charles Dickens' home for fallen women and inspired by real figures from history, it is Stacey’s most ambitious and captivating novel yet.
Wave of Nostalgia owner Diane Park is really looking forward to a fantastic month. She says “It’s great to be involved with the Haworth Festival once more. We’ve put together events for early July and the Festival that we hope people of all ages will find educational and exciting”. She adds “For anyone who can’t make it to Haworth for the events, most will also be shared on on Zoom”
