Schools Out For Summer! As the kids come home and summer gets into full swing, here are a few ideas on what you can get up to, to keep the whole family entertained over the coming weeks.
A refreshing swim is always a welcome thing in the heat of summer. So why not take a dip out in the open air at Ilkley Lido’s outdoor pool? It makes for a refreshing start to a day out in Ilkley or the perfect way to relax after a long day hiking around the moors.
Return to the Haworth Festival this year from 18th-28th July, which is full of brilliant events including music, poetry dance and a communal run through Brontë Country to search for hidden heart sculptures.
A good old-fashioned picnic is always a great time and there are plenty of beautiful places for you to sit down and unpack your sandwiches throughout the district. Why not take a walk across the moorlands in Haworth or Ilkley and sit at the top of the Cow and Calf Rocks to enjoy the view, or wander the gentle paths beside the canal and find a bench where you can sit and watch the world go by? There’s plenty of space in the district’s parks too with lots of open space for kids to run around and play to work up an appetite.
There’s fun to be found on land and water at Roberts Park, Saltaire on 20th-21st July at the Bradford Dragon Boat Festival. Cheer on your favourite boats as they race for charity and between races, enjoy plenty of live entertainment and delicious food and drink in the park.
Head out on a geocaching adventure around Bradford. There are caches and experiences to be discovered all across the district. You simply need to download the free Geocaching or Geocaching Adventure Labs apps to a smartphone, choose from a list of local caches and see what treasures they’ll lead you too! This is a great interactive experience for the whole family.
Enjoy an incredible variety of performances and activities at BD:Festival which returns to the city on 26th-27th July. Watch stunning circus acts and hilarious performances, enjoy a drink inspired by a piece of history or join an interactive experience during this brilliant 2-day event which is fun for all the family.
Let loose at one of the district’s amazing activity centres. Blast away at Laser Zone, climb the walls at Clip ‘N Climb or bounce off them at Infinity! Older families can attempt to solve the puzzles at Time Trapped or engage in a friendly archery contest at Crazy Targets.
Board a classic train on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway who will be running daily services from 20th July-1st September. A rail journey through beautiful Brontë Country is a great way to kick off a summer day out in the district.
Take a trip to the theatre to see some of the incredible family shows heading to the stage. The likes of Alice in Wonderland and Disney’s Aladdin will keep youngsters laughing and cheering for hours whilst older kids will be hooked on the action of Cirque - The Greatest Show and the iconic songs of Grease.
Step back in time at the Yorkshire Wartime Experience in Bradford on the 9th-11th August. The North’s premier military and vehicle re-enactment event returns with a packed event full of adrenaline-pumping re-enactments, tanks, a military fashion show and much more.
Join the fun at Burley Summer Festival. There’s something for everyone during festival week, including the Classic Car show, the ‘Burley in Woofdale’ dog show, a scarecrow trail, opera night, vintage fair and much more.
Visit the many amazing museums in the district and immerse yourself in fascinating exhibitions. Discover nostalgic toys, the home of literary greats, natural history, art and more as you explore the wonderful exhibits and grounds as well as seasonal events where you can enjoy archaeology, medicine, the natural world and more.
Seven giant red giraffes will lead a parade through the city on Saturday, 24th August alongside a variety of keepers, performers and musicians as part of the build-up to Bradford’s year as the UK City of Culture 2025. Come down and marvel at these magnificent puppets.

malcolm This sounds like an amazing event, especially with the variety of local brews and the unique twist of dedicated brewery trains. It's clear that the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway’s Beer and Music Festival is becoming a staple in the area. However, for anyone planning to attend, it’s always a good idea to plan ahead and ensure that all your event details are set. I've had experiences where things didn't go as smoothly with certain services, so I always recommend checking reviews beforehand. For example, if you're using services like Evite for your event invitations, you might want to take a look at some feedback from other users to avoid any last-minute hiccups. You can find some honest opinions here: https://evite.pissedconsumer.com/review.html. Looking forward to seeing the line-up of bands!
