It’s already September in the Bradford district; how the year has flown by! There’s still loads more fun coming up to enjoy though, so why not take a gander at a few of this month’s highlights.

Heritage Open Days are back from 6th-15th September and venues across the district are opening their doors to welcome you with some very special events. Follow trails around heritage locations, discover rarely seen treasures, or take guided tours around some of the district’s most iconic attractions, like NT East Riddlesden Hall and Ilkley Manor House. Plus, this year we’ll be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Bradford Industrial Museum, so be sure to come along and celebrate!

Visit the South Square Centre in Thornton from 6th-29th September to see the new exhibition ‘Working the Wool’ by Pat Belson. These wonderful works explore wool in all its glory with bright colours and examples of needle felting and punch needling.

Discover the tastiest local produce at the Annual Organic Show at Shipley College on Saturday, 7th November. Get some growing advice, taste some tomatoes or sit down in the cafe to try some delicious vegetarian food.

Enjoy a family day out at the Keighley and District Agricultural Show. On Saturday, 7th September, head to the King George V Fields and spend the day with horses, donkeys, cows, dog shows and much, much more at this wonderful celebration of farming.

Take a stroll around Keighley from 9th-22nd September, with over 40 guided walks taking place as part of the Keighley Walking Festival. There are routes to suit all ages and ability levels, from simple strolls to full-day hikes.

Head from the Brontë Parsonage Museum to Hollywood on Thursday, 12th September. In this new talk from Sam Harrison you’ll find out what happened when major movie studios started adapting the Brontë sisters’ famous works for the big screen.

Raise a glass at the Saltaire Brewery Beer Festival on 13th-14th September. Buy your tickets and head to the brewery to find a huge marquee and four bars full of tasty drinks, incredible food and great live entertainment.

Celebrate community, culture and creativity at the Saltaire Festival on 14th-22nd September. Discover new art exhibitions, music and comedy performances, markets and more at this annual festival set in a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Solve clues and keep an eye on your companions at Restaurant 1914 in Bradford on Saturday, 14th September because there’s a killer amongst you… Put on your deerstalker, pull out your magnifying glass and play detective at this thrilling murder mystery dinner.

The Brontë Festival of Women’s Writing is back from 20th-22nd September. Head into Haworth for a weekend of incredible events featuring some fantastic female authors talking about their works along with guided walks, children’s activities and more. Tickets for the event are on sale now.

See classic films back on the big screen as Widescreen Weekend returns to the Pictureville Cinema in Bradford from 26th-30th September. Dozens of iconic films including Amadeus, Vertigo and the original Indiana Jones Trilogy will all be showing as part of this fantastic film festival.

Get ready to explore a world of holistic health and wellness at King's Hall, Ilkley on 27th-29th September. At the Healing Alternatives Festival you can Try out alternative and complementary therapies, discover new ways to improve your physical and mental health and enjoy some unique shopping opportunities.

The Bradford district theatres and music venues are absolutely packed with incredible shows that you’ll love. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is driving into the Alhambra Theatre, and the Bingley Little Theatre is set to take you on a journey through the Simon and Garfunkel Story. Ryan Maloney is coming to St George’s Hall in Bradford to discuss his storied career while Sir Geoff Hurst talks football at King’s Hall in Ilkley. Meanwhile, Ilkley Playhouse takes you to a world where speech has reached its limits in Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons and All Saints Church, Ilkley will host author Kate Atkinson as the debut event for next months Ilkley Literature Festival.

Put on your dancing shoes at St George’s Hall and get some Lipstick on your Collar with a night of 50s and 60s hits, then head out to King’s Hall to hear some classic James Bond hits. The Live Room in Saltaire is putting on a weekend of live music as TLR Inside Out returns while the Underground in Bradford welcomes singer/songwriter Willy Tea Taylor. The wonderful pianists of the Leeds Piano Competition will be at St George’s Hall for the concerto finals. Sally Barker is taking to the stage at the Topic Folk Club and Bradford Cathedral is presenting a special evening with Philippa Hanna.
