Bradford Theatres and Crossroads Pantomimes have announced the principal line-up who will lead the cast of the Alhambra Theatre’s pantomime, Pinocchio. The theatre had previously announced that the festive spectacular will be led by Bradford pantomime legend Billy Pearce, Coronation Street star Chris Gascoyne and Drag Superstar Courtney Act.
Joining Billy, Chris and Courtney will be panto veteran Steve Arnott as Dame Rita Rigatoni and performer Ewan Goddard, as the titular role Pinocchio.
Steve Arnott started his professional career as a voice over artist for radio and television and appeared on national television as the original Dairy Crest milkman. Since then, Steve has appeared in over 21 pantomimes, including 12 seasons at the Theatre Royal in Newcastle. When Steve is not acting, directing or touring, he is one of three Scenic Artists who restore and paint the vast stock of stage sets for Crossroads Pantomimes at their production facility in East Yorkshire.
Ewan Goddard has starred in pantomimes up and down the UK over the years, last appearing in the 2019 production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in the Alhambra Theatre. Ewan has appeared in the international tour of James and the Giant Peach as the titular role, and has TV credits including Doctors (BBC) and Jack in Monty & Co (CBeebies).
Also returning to Bradford for another festive season, after a triumphant appearance as Cinderella last year, is West Yorkshire local Sarah Pearson. Based in Huddersfield, Sarah’s most recent appearance was in I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change (Wolverhampton Grand/Edinburgh Fringe Festival), following a successful tour of Kathy and Stella Solve a Murder.
Sarah will be joined by Leeds-born Monique Ashe-Palmer, with the Yorkshire performers taking on the evil duo of the Fox and Cat. Monique has recently finished a run of Standing at the Sky’s Edge at The Gillian Lynne Theatre in London, having previously appeared in SIX at the Vaudeville Theatre where she was Alternate Aragon/Cleves.
West-End performer Nicholas McLean completes the line up, appearing as Jiminy Cricket. Nicholas is no stranger to the stage, having played Boq in Wicked (Apollo Victoria Theatre), Pugsley Addams in The Addams Family (The London Palladium) and The Doctor in The Book of Mormon (Prince of Wales Theatre) to name but a few.
The cast were given a true Bradford welcome as they gathered at the Alhambra Theatre yesterday (Tuesday 24 September) to launch this year’s brand-new pantomime, Pinocchio, in all its colourful glory.
Adam Renton General Manager Bradford Theatres commented: “We’re absolutely thrilled to present a brand-new pantomime, Pinocchio, at the Alhambra Theatre this festive season! With the ever-popular Billy Pearce leading the way, alongside Chris Gascoyne and Courtney Act in her UK pantomime debut, and of course, the incredible supporting cast announced today, this year’s panto is set to be our biggest and best yet.
Every year, over 70,000 people flock to the Alhambra Theatre for our pantomime, and it’s no wonder – audiences across the region have a deep affection for this beloved tradition. With our reputation for delivering outstanding entertainment for all ages, I’m confident theatregoers will once again be treated to an unforgettable experience. I can’t wait to welcome this fantastic cast to Bradford, especially as we celebrate our theatre’s 110th anniversary and look forward to 2025, when Bradford becomes the UK’s City of Culture!”
Pinocchio is produced by the world’s biggest pantomime producer and the team behind the 2023 production of Cinderella, Crossroads Pantomimes.
Featuring stunning sets and costumes, fantastic special effects and laugh-out-loud comedy, the 2024 Alhambra Theatre panto is guaranteed to be everything Bradford audiences have come to expect from their annual festive production.
