The National Science and Media Museum’s Pictureville Cinema has announced its full December programme, with festive classics being screened alongside new favourites to keep all ages entertained this Christmas.
Ahead of the museum’s full reopening in January, the IMAX screen will also be welcoming audiences back from 20 December 2024. Returning with screenings of the prequel to one of Disney’s most loved titles, Mufasa: The Lion King (2024) across the Christmas period.
From Saturday 7 December, Pictureville will also be hosting a specially curated Christmas season, screening a selection of feel-good titles, cult classics and family favourites to get visitors in the holiday spirit, with festive drink specials and seasonal snacks.
Pictureville’s Christmas programme will include screenings of classic titles such as It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) and The Bishop’s Wife (1947), as well as a 70th anniversary screening of White Christmas (1954). The cinema will also be marking the return of Royal Ballet and Opera screenings with The Royal Ballet: The Nutcracker (2023), bringing the beloved ballet to the big screen with Peter Wright’s renowned production.
Other Christmas highlights from across the month include anniversary screenings of Gremlins (1984) and The Polar Express (2004), as well as family favourite The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) and action blockbuster Die Hard (1988).
For cinemagoers looking for an alternative Christmas watch, Pictureville will be screening Edward Scissorhands (1990) on 70mm and seasonal anime tragicomedy Tokyo Godfathers (2003), as well as new release Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point (2024).
During weekends throughout December, there will be festive Kids’ Club screenings with craft activities and a discounted rate of £3 per ticket, as well as an additional £3 popcorn and juice offer. Festive Kids’ Clubs include Elf (2003), Arthur Christmas (2011) and Home Alone (1990). CBeebies Panto 2024: Beauty and the Beast will also be shown on selected weekends across the season.
Those looking for a break from festivities can also enjoy a selection of highly anticipated new releases at Pictureville, including Wicked (2024) Paddington In Peru (2024).
