The regional finalists of the Independent Bookshop of the Year for 2025 have been announced and Haworth’s own Bookshop Wave of Nostalgia is once more fighting it out with nine of the best bookshops from the North of England (including four from Yorkshire) to win the coveted title.

Owner Diane Park says “It’s been a fabulous year for Wave of Nostalgia, one in which we met so many fantastic customers new and old, introduced brilliant authors to our little community and received such tremendous feedback. To cap it all, we are amazed and excited to find out we’re North of England finalists in the 2025 Independent Bookshop of the year awards in a year which has seen the most ever entries. It’s really very special and we’d like to thank everyone who has helped us to achieve this in only our fourth year as booksellers. One of the reasons for this success is our brilliant programme of events – last year this included included evenings with authors, book signings, book groups and charity fundraisers – an incredible ninety events in total! This year we believe our events will be even better – and what a month March will be…"

The month kicks off with an LGBTQ+ coffee & book group at 11.30 on Sat 1st where planning for Haworth Pride (to be held from 24-29 June) will continue.

Thursday 6th March is World Book Day. Wave of Nostalgia is celebrating by donating a total of over 3,000 of the special £1 books to ten schools from the Worth Valley to Bradford to make sure children who have never owned a book get that important opportunity. On that evening at 7PM award-winning bestselling author Stacey Halls, will tell all about her latest historical novel Household, Set against Charles Dickens' home for fallen women and inspired by real figures from history, it is Stacey Halls' best, most ambitious and captivating novel yet.

On Wednesday 12th at 7PM we are delighted to be helping launch Jess Kidd’s new cosy crime novel Murder at Gulls Nest. It’s the first in a sparkling new 1950s seaside mystery series, featuring sharp-eyed former nun Nora Breen: In a house like Gulls Nest, curiosity might prove fatal…

The next event features a star-studded panel of Bronte experts, who have joined forces to celebrate their hero Charlotte Bronte’s birthday.  At 6.30PM on Thursday 20th join Graham Watson, Karen Powell & Rowan Coleman in discussing Charlotte’s literature, loves and life in the beautiful Parish Church in which she worshipped and was married.

A major focus for Wave of Nostalgia this year is the environment. This month two initiatives are being launched. The first is the provision of free for use Climate Change Libraries in three locations in the area. Come along to St.Michael’s Church in Haworth at 2PM on Weds 26th to find out how it will work and to enjoy a hot drink and chat about how you can help save our beautiful planet. The second is a series of Mending Workshops, headed by Diane, where you are invited to bring along items of clothing and learn the skills to make items wearable again. The workshops are at 6.30PM on Tuesday 18th and 2.30PM on Saturday 22nd.

Nydia Hetherington completes the lineup. Acclaimed author of A Girl Made of Air, Sycorax is beautifully written and deeply moving imagining of what came before Shakespeare's The Tempest.
