Saltaire Living Advent Calendar by Philip Lickley

About

Running since 2006, the Saltaire Living Advent Calendar has become a real highlight for Saltaire and Bradford, and also attracts visitors from further afield and followers online from across the globe. With its quirky window designs in picturesque settings, this magical event sees windows light daily up throughout the month in houses, schools, shops and churches until Christmas Eve. There is a strong community focus; anyone in the village can take part, and participants include new residents, children, seasoned window creators, professional artists and local businesses.

Window designs remain a secret until they are revealed at 16:00 on their light-up date, and typically include traditional and modern festive scenes, quirky characters and tales influenced by Saltaire, culture, and the window creators own lives and experiences – often with a good sprinkling of festive humour!

A map showing the locations of the windows can be downloaded from November at saltaireinspired.org.uk and can be picked up at locations throughout Saltaire. Windows are illuminated from 16:00- 22:30 each evening, until the 1 January. For those unable to visit in person, the event has a loyal following across the world through social media, and window designs are revealed each evening on the Saltaire Inspired website as well as on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
